Dok ja stajah još zatečen na odgovor spremno rečen,
“Nema sumnje,” rekoh, “ta je rič tek trica, ništa više
Od nesrećnog gazde čuta, kojega je sudba kruta
Pratila duž zloga puta, dok mu sve se pesme sliše
U tužaljke puste nade, pod teretom što se zbiše,
Od ‘nikada-nikad više'”.

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
